Rungent
A small, typed agent runtime embedded in your Python application.
Rungent supplies the infrastructure every product assistant otherwise reimplements: typed tool calling, the model/tool harness loop, sessions and runs, user input, deterministic approval gates, streaming events, persistence ports, and baseline evaluation.
Scope
Rungent deliberately does not include a sidecar service, skill router, configuration console, or styled chat interface. An application imports the Python package, defines an Agent and tools, mounts the optional FastAPI router and/or MCP adapter, and consumes in-app events with the TypeScript SDK. MCP is an in-process transport for the same tools, not a hosted Rungent cloud.
Design rules
- Application code describes capabilities; Rungent owns orchestration.
- Types generate model schemas and validate every call again at execution time.
- Tool safety is explicit and enforced in code.
- User clarification and operation approval are durable interactions.
- Provider-specific model streams never cross the backend boundary.
- Baseline behavior is testable without a real model and evaluable with one.
